University Licences
The University of Wales, Newport subscribes to a number of copyright licences that allow students and staff of the University to photocopy and scan works of copyright protected material, i.e. materials that are the copyright of the author or creator.
Copyright – ‘Fair Dealing’ Guidelines
The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) (CDPA) gives legal protection to creators of original material against unauthorised exploitation of their work. If a work is protected by copyright it may not be copied without the permission of the copyright owner. However, the Act includes certain provisions which allow copying without prior permission. One of these provisions is known as ‘fair dealing’.
